Bohemia v Berkshire Whitewash at Shalbourne, Wiltshire 7th September 2014

Match Report by Berkshire Whitewash: The game got off to a late start at 2.25 after a couple of pints in the Plough partly because food service was nearly as slow as Guy’s bowling. We won the toss and put the opposition into bat believing we were better at a run chase. Not sure well do that again! We should congratulate Bam Bam on doing about 80% of the fielding (he also dropped two catches) Robin for his keeping (won’t be able to get out of bed in the morning) and Ant Dalzell for the worst ball bowled all day which actually hit him on his own toe.
However the Bohemians just don’t get it. Their opening pair (including the eminent General from the Pakistani Mounted Regiment) just like to play cricket and quickly got bogged down so that after 30 overs they had only got 156 for 3 – a pretty easy target we thought as went in for Annie and Clare’s enormous tea. There was generally good good tight bowling all round. Mark and Bert opened (actually Charlie Pack should have opened but he was still eating cake) and Mark hit an enormous six off the first ball. This isn’t going to take long we thought.

That was until Bert decided to run Charlie out who was just getting into his stride and then Simon for a duck. The Bohemians couldn’t believe their and started to sniff victory. Anyway there were some solid contributions through the order (Crane 13, Boycott 10, Frewer 17, Kary 8 and Pack)

but the stars were were those old St Aubyn’s First X1 pair Nelson 25 retired and Bampfylde whose 39 steered us to our winning target with an over to spare. Frankly it was a bit close for comfort! Thank you all for joining in and contributing to another remarkable victory for the Berkshire Whitewash X1.
