Bohemian Victory at Linkenholt, Hampshire 26th July 2023

Match Report by Linkenholt. “We were playing Bohemian Wanderers – youngish local roving team.”
Well The Holt’s much vaunted youth policy came to a bit of a halt yesterday. We had a debutant in young Oliver Mylne and had recruited a returnee in Rob Boyd and found a George Merison who had the best chat in many a year.
The Boho woofers decided to bat first and raced off in our 30 over tussle. Some imperious hitting from their left hander had George and I slightly on the back foot! Eventually we broke through, Rennie came into the action and was a bit unlucky and was launched for a monster over cow corner. Our fielding was back to the good old days as we dropped relentlessly!
Chan Munro wheeled away and Young Mylne took a wicket from a brilliant catch in the deep by Paddy J deep at long on and running in. We had the wrong Melly standing at short extra / mid off as G Funk had a few dropped off him . On a recount they got to 188 – a tall ask.
They had a couple of decent quick bowlers who proceeded to rip through our top order – Chan very unlucky to be hit on the top of his handle as he was trying to leave at 28 – 4 we were staring down a barrel. Boyd and the Skip then teamed up and were fortunate with some generous bowling choices and got us back on track. Murdoch retired and Boyd carried on and hit a wonderful 44 – coupled with his keeping – a talent we need to nurture! Eagle batted nicely and hit a couple of gorgeous straight drives – Melly came in and managed his top score for a few years with imperious hits over extra cover.
Sadly we ran short of batsmen and ended up at a credible 162. Big thanks to Al Portman and the 2 Jane’s for a fab tea as ever – The Ump for being – well The Ump. They were a nice team, good spirit and we retired to The Crown for typical post-match merriment. Over to you Paddy to get us back on winning lines! Come on The Holt!
